If Tech Times is to be believed, the third-gen Moto X, specifically the Moto X Pure Edition, is now in the testing phase for a soon-to- arrive Marshmallow update. The tech site claims that actual tests are now underway but short of so-called soak testing, in which select Moto X users are invited to participate in the process.

"We have started a small TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on Moto X 2015 Pure Edition," the report quoted a Motorola official as saying. But the same company exec clarified too that soak tests are yet to be performed.

Regardless, the latest development clearly indicates that Motorola, as promised, is working doubly-hard to deliver Android 6 at the soonest possible time, likely between November and December 2015 or ahead of other Android flagship devices but not before Google's Nexus phones will get Marshmallow.

The Moto smartphone maker has already announced that the Moto X and Moto G models, which include the 2015 and 2014 builds, with be Marshmallow sweetened in no time. It remains to be seen if the Moto E and the 2013 editions will be included in the update plans.

But while waiting for clues, one solid hint suddenly dropped regarding the rumored Motorola Droid MAXX 2. The device, Tech Times said in a separate report, will likely have a feature that Android fans will surely adore - a removable back plate.

With the Droid MAXX 2 ready to peel off anytime, the handset gains an advantage over major players like the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6. Removable back cover means access to the battery and likelihood of easily replacing it when required.

The new report also points to the following rumored specs for the Droid MAXX 2: a 5.5-inch full HD screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixels (401ppi) resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 615 processor at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory with option to expand by up to 128GB, thanks to a microSD card slot.

And with such detailed specs coming out, the Motorola Droid MAXX 2 release date is likely to happen quite soon, exclusively via Verizon Wireless, but not before the supposed October 27 introduction of the Android device planned by the Moto X maker.
