Sony just made its first price cut for its flagship PlayStation 4 console. To benefit from the lower price are Australian consumers, particularly those who plan to buy the 500GB model as Christmas holiday gift.
The discount would be A$80 as the price would be lowered to A$479.95 from the original A$549.95, according to CNET.
The tech entertainment and electronics giant wants to make the console have a wider reach to a broader audience which led Sony to also initiate price cuts at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. From €399, the PS4 would sell for €349 in Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain.
Sony controls two-thirds of the console market in Europe, according to EEDAR, videogame industry tracker.
Similar price cuts had been made by the Japanese electronics giant in Japan, Canada and the U.S., reports The Wall Street Journal.
Sony launched the PS4 in November 2013. During that time, rival Microsoft also rolled out its Xbox One console at A$599. Even if the PS 4 was cheaper than the Xbox, with the A$80 price reduction, more Aussie gamers are expected to buy the lower-priced Sony console, even perhaps among Xbox users who may want a second console.
Besides the price cut, Sony would also release in Q4 2015 and early 2016 several flagships such as the "Call of Duty: Black Opps III, "Star Wars: Battlefront," "Unchartered 4: A Thief's End" and "Street Fighter V." The first two would launch with PS4 hardware.
