"Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe recently opened up about his troubled past and his struggles with alcohol during his initial years of settling into stardom.
During a candid interview with Playboy, the "Equus" star has spoken about reasons for drinking at an early age, his least favorite performance in the "Harry Potter" saga and the mistakes that have molded him as an actor.
Radcliffe told the publication with the popularity of the "Potter" films, he became more self-conscious of the people who would notice his movements at venues and pullout their phones to take pictures.
"Anytime I'd go out to dance, camera phones would come out. What's the easiest way to escape being self-conscious? Alcohol is a quick way of doing that," he said.
In a 2014 interview with the Mirror, Radcliffe discussed his decision to turn sober for a program conducted by Sky Arts. "The Woman In Black" actor said alcohol was his form of escape from the pressures of fame, as well as his fears of failure.
Radcliffe told the publication he lived under the constant pressure of having to worry about his career and the fear of ending up like many young actors who have lived on the former glories of their previous work. He said the "Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix" was his best performance, while "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was his least pleasing work.
"In every movie up to the sixth one, you can see a big step forward in my acting," Radcliffe told the publication. He pointed out that his work went backwards with the sixth installment.
Since the ending of the "Harry Potter" franchise, Radcliffe has gone on to star in films such as "Kill Your Darlings" and his upcoming "Victor Frankenstein" playing the role of Igor to James McAvoy's character of a macabre physician.
The film is sit to hit theaters on Dec. 3 in the United Kingdom.
