The Tristan Thompson saga is over, if reports from Cleveland hold true.
The Canadian forward has agreed to essentially the same deal that Cleveland offered. The report from Cleveland.com.
"League sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group that the two sides agreed Wednesday to a five-year, $82 million pact, ending a lengthy stalemate that should ensure Thompson's presence in Northeast Ohio through the deals already in place with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving and, most likely, LeBron James."
The report also noted that the signing will officially place the Cavs at the top of the league's payroll list with $ 115 million. It seems to be worth it because the latest GM survey lists the Cavs at the top of the title favorite list as per ESPN.
"The GMs picked the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the title this season, as 53.8 percent of the votes were cast in their favor, according to the survey results released Tuesday."
Yet, naysayers believed that the Cavs would not win the championship unless Tristan Thompson returns. One of the more notable proponents of this thought was former player turned analyst Jalen Rose.
And now that Thompson has returned, the Cavs and their fans can rest easy that the core of last year's Eastern Conference champions has returned.
They were two games short of winning the NBA title-which could also be translated to "two injuries short" as Kevin Love sat out most of the playoffs and Kyrie Irving fell in the Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
