Following the reported hosting glitches encountered by file-sharing site The Pirate Bay in the past days, similar sites YTS and Popcorn Time appear to suffer the same problem. A new report indicates that the popular movie torrent sources are currently offline.
While the resilient TPB is back online, YTS, which was originally established and known to torrent fans as YIFY, remains unreachable, according to Torrent Freak. A check on the site's domain YTS.to leads to a blank web page and the same report said that efforts to contact the YYS admin yielded no response as of press time.
Torrent Freak reported too that heading directly to a server identified with YTS pulled up the message, "Be Back Soon." But it's unclear if efforts are already underway to restore the site's services. Along with other sites that host copyrighted materials, YTS is on the take-down list of copyright holders.
YTS moved from YTS.re to YTS.to following earlier threats of domain suspension.
Unlike The Pirate Bay though that has become the alternate source of software, e-books, music and other electronic files, YTS or YIFY is focused on freely sharing its thousands of movie title collection, boasting an extensive film library of Full HD titles in small size.
And likely connected to the ongoing YTS outage, free movie streaming service Popcorn Time also went off the air. Torrent Freak notes on its report that with the Popcorn Time downtime, its social media presence also vanished.
When checking for instance the @popcorntimetv Twitter account, the return simply reads: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!" And it looks like that the Facebook counterpart of the same service has been deactivated.
The chance is high that Popcorn Time is undergoing a technical issue but it cannot be discounted that the project is being bogged down by internal strife. Infightings among the key personalities in Popcorn Time have been reported in the past, chiefly concerning finances and control of the service, Torrent Freak reports.
It should be noted too that Popcorn Time going offline at the same time with YTS is expected as "most if not all versions of Popcorn Time rely on a website called YTS for their movie libraries," Torrent Freak said.
