Is Draymond Green really as good as most people think or is he a beneficiary of the Golden State Warriors' system?
This is a question that was raised when a list of the most overrated players in the NBA was compiled by NBA fansite Sir Charles In Charge.
While it can be acknowledged that Green was vital to the Golden State Warriors and SCIC said "they don't win the NBA Championship without him. However, I'm not sure how valuable he would be to the rest of the league. And that sort of matters in these types of rankings."
Green signed a contract similar to the one that his NBA Finals rival Tristan Thompson was rumored to have just agreed to. Green signed an $ 85 million/5 year contract that nobody even questioned.
However, much of the criticism about Green stemmed from his outspoken attitude wherein he was the most vocal in defending the Warriors.
He's a great defensive player - can guard positions 1 through 5 at times - and can hit the occasional open outside jumper," SCIC stated. "Though, with the way that he's talked ever since his team beat a very much short-handed Cleveland Cavaliers team in the Finals, you'd think he was their most important player and took home MVP honors."
One of the questions on Green's fame is whether he can thrive outside of the Warriors' system. Without the aid of outside shooters like the Splash Brothers, can Draymond hold his own?
Another fellow Warrior made the list in Klay Thompson. Also, Damian Lilard, Derrick Rose and Kevin Love.
Thompson is allegedly the beneficiary of Stephen Curry's MVP play. Rose is rated because of his MVP season which now seems like a distant memory. Lillard built a reputation of being a clutch player because of one shot (when he eliminated the Houston Rockets in a buzzer beated in the 2014 Playoffs). Love allegedly padded his stats in Minnesota.
This is a challenge to the players mentioned. Will they prove the critics wrong?
