On Oct. 27, China issued an anti-corruption regulation that prohibits establishments like spas, hotels and restaurants from operating in historic sites and public spaces.

The regulation dictates that a meal in dining places located around public and historic areas must not exceed 200 yuan ($32.70) per person.

In compliance, restaurants have introduced menus with lower prices. Guilingongguan, a restaurant in Guilin Park, Xuhui District, and Tianbaorenjia, a restaurant in Heping Park, Hongkou District, are the first restaurants to do so.

Restaurants that said will follow their lead are located in Gongqing Forestry Park, Daguanyuan Garden, Xinhongqiao Park, Shanghai Botanical Garden and Xujiahui Park, according to authorities.

In Shanghai's 161 parks, there are around 200 restaurants operating. Eleven out of those 200 failed to comply with the government's new requirement, said the local authorities.

The new regulation is designed to stamp out extravagance among public sector officials. A guideline published by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and State Council stated these establishments have "damaged the public interest, fanned corruption and triggered discontent in society."
