China will strengthen its relationship with Morocco by enhancing its practical cooperation with the North African country, said political adviser Yu Zhengsheng on Tuesday in the country's capital Rabat, Xinhua News Agency reported.
During a three-day official friendly visit, Yu, chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPCC), met with Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Tuesday to reaffirm China's commitment to its ties with Morocco.
One of the first African countries to build a diplomatic relationship with China, Morocco has had a good cooperation with China in politics, economy and people-to-people exchanges, according to Yu. The Moroccan-Chinese ties started 56 years ago.
According to Yu, China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges between the two countries and raise the level of political mutual trust with Morocco. He called for simpler procedures for the exchanges so as to foster tighter cooperation in culture, education and tourism.
The official also promised to ask Chinese businesses to invest in the North African country.
Yu identified Morocco as a vital partner in Africa and the Arab world. Thus, its assistance would be beneficial to China's goal of establishing better China-Africa and China-Arab cooperation and cultivating regional accord and stability and better plans in fighting terrorism.
Yu also met with Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane and President of the Chamber of Representatives on Monday. He also held talks with Mohamed Cheikh Biadilla, Morocco's senate president.
The Moroccan leaders, as well as King Mohammed VI, expressed appreciation for the lasting support China has given their country and, in return, promised closer cooperation with China.
Yu's visit in Morocco is the second stop in his four-nation tour in North Africa and the Middle East. He has visited Algeria and will proceed to Bahrain on Wednesday and Jordan on Friday.
