Automatic unicycles, Segways and other automotive mobile transporters have been banned in China's subways, according to Metro police.
The mentioned items are additions to those previously listed by Metro police as prohibited to be used in metro subways.
The local force said that the safety of the civilians inside the subway is the main reason why the motorized transporters were banned.
Even with the transporter ban, Metro police will not be making arrests; they will only give a warning to anyone who defies the prohibition.
Unicycles and Segways have been already banned in Shanghai roads and highways by the local traffic enforcers.
Aside from the mentioned transporters, bicycles are also not allowed in the city's subways, in accordance to Shanghai's Metro policies.
"Bicycles take up too much space in Metro carriages which can lead to disputes between passengers," a Dongbaoxing Road Station Metro staff said.
Exceptions to the regulation apply, though. Foldable bicycles that fall under the 1.7-meter luggage length limit and the 0.2-cubic-meter volume limit can be carried and brought into subway stations in the Metro.
"If a foldable cycle is put in a case and doesn't take too much space, we allow them in," a Metro staff member said.
Furthermore, roller skates and skateboards are also not allowed to be used inside the subway stations as they may pose danger to civilians.
