As global leaders China and the United States gradually topping the renewable-energy race, Australia's record for green project investment has dropped by 70 percent, the Climate Council said.
For the past five years, countries all over the world, with China and the U.S. leading, have been taking part in climate change advocacies. However, the Climate Council report stated that Australia has fallen behind.
The report said that while Australia has been active in the global climate action, the country has shifted from a "leader to laggard."
The Climate Council noted that the Federal Government must position itself a clear stance before Australia investors drop hold of their renewable energy projects.
Tim Flannery of the Climate Council said that investors are now opting to spend in countries such as China and the United States because of Australia's situation.
Australia, Flannery said, had a big drop this year. With the U.S. and China in power front, Australia is in a sorry state.
Meanwhile, in a study published on "The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus," it was said that the drive leading China to be the biggest renewable energy system in the world has been recognized by experts.
Climate scientist James Hansen said that China is now the world's leading country on the installation of wind, hydropower, nuclear and solar electricity generation.
A study released in 2013 supports Hansen's statement, saying there are three factors that may be considered in China's renewable energy revolution. These are installed capacity, which is measured by gigawatts of power; electrical energy generation, in billion kWh or TWh; and investment data.
