The New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony and Cleveland Cavaliers' Kevin Love are two of the best stretch fours in the NBA today. Rumors of the two switching sides were abounding last summer and just recently there was a trade suggestion by a Detroit Pistons fan for the team to acquire either one of them to help Andre Drummond in the offense.
In the Pistons' Mailbag via the league's official website, fan "Ken" from Baton Rouge, Louisiana told NBA analyst Keith Langlois that Detroit needs to "trade for Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Love or this season will look much like last year."
Last season, the Pistons missed the playoffs, finished last in the Central Division, and was 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 32-50 record despite having two of the best young big men in the league in Drummond and Greg Monroe.
Only Drummond is with the team right now as Monroe opted to join the Milwaukee Bucks for a maximum deal in the offseason, as reported by ESPN.
Detroit's roster is looking decent with new acquisitions Ersan Ilyasova, Steve Blake, and Marcus Morris, but it is evident that they need more star power alongside Drummond to be competitive even in the weaker East.
However, Langlois was quick to refute the suggestion, saying that the Pistons have no assets to trade for either Anthony or Love except a package that would involve Drummond himself, which is ironic.
Langlois noted that Love is a lock in Cleveland (at least until December) as the team is "built to win now" while Phil Jackson may entertain trade offers involving Anthony, but as mentioned it would most likely include Drummond in the deal, which fails the original objective altogether.
Perhaps a trade with Phoenix for Morris' brother Marcus would make more sense if they want to add more firepower in Stan Van Gundy's offense.
