A senior member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pledged on Tuesday tighter exchanges between the CPC and Germany's Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Liu Yunshan, a leader of the Standing Committee of the Politcal Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, announced his commitment during a meeting in Beijing with Germany's visiting delegation headed by SDP vice chairman Thorsten Schafer-Gumbel, according to a report by the Global Times.

The German party was in Beijing to take part in the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the CPC-SPD inter-party relationship.

In a speech, Liu said that the two parties have conducted dialogues and engaged in productive cooperation in the past 30 years.

The official said that the CPC is prepared to make joint efforts with the German party to impart experience in governance, increase cultural exchanges be involved in vital cooperation in different fields.

These activities will step up the ties between China and Germany, he said.

Liu also spoke about the China-initiated Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road to the visiting party.

On the German side, Schafer-Gumbel expressed the SDP's willingness to further improve exchanges and cooperation with the CPC with the end goal of boosting Germany-China links.
