New NBA trade rumors regarding the New York Knicks' starting point guard Jose Calderon are currently buzzing around the league as the young pair of Jerian Grant and Langston Galloway prove themselves more efficient in Derek Fisher's triangle offense as the 2015-2016 NBA season began.
As of the moment, Fisher is starting Calderon with fellow veteran Sasha Vujacic in the Knick's backcourt. However, as official statistics had revealed, the backup tandem of Grant and Galloway is more successful that their aging counterparts.
Sports World Report noted that New York is "getting outscored 12.1 points per 36 minutes" when the duo of Calderon and Vujacic are on the court, compared to the Knicks "outscoring opponents" by 20.5 points every 36 minutes when Grant and Galloway are playing.
If this trend continues throughout the regular season, then the 34-year-old's Spanish could be out of New York before next year's February trade deadline.
Many analysts, however, are banking that Calderon will recover from his current slump when Knicks shooting guard Arron Afflalo comes back from his hamstring injury weeks from now.
Afflalo is supposed to be starting beside Calderon this time, but the former Denver Nugget is currently being hampered by hamstring problems. It is reported that Calderon would be more effective partnered with Afflalo than with Vujacic.
Sports Media 101 reported that Fisher was firm in keeping Calderon as the team's starting point guard.
"Whatever is the best for the team, that's ultimately what I'll do," he says. "But at the moment, I'll start Jose," Fisher said.
Meanwhile, Calderon is said to be not affected by the trade rumors and the rising play of Grant in particular. He even mentioned in one interview that he is trying to make (Grant's) jump into the NBA as comfortable as possible" and that "it doesn't matter" to him "who plays at the end of the day" as long as the team is winning.
