Acting as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Meng Jianzhu assured Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab of China's continued support in security and law enforcement to better serve their respective national security and maintain stability in the region, according to a Xinhua report.
Meng is the secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He arrived in Cairo on Saturday for a two-day visit.
During the meeting, Meng told the Egyptian leaders that China is hoping to further facilitate the regular exchange of visits of law enforcement personnel between their respective countries, as such exchanges would advance their respective security manpower's professional capabilities.
Xi's special envoy also reiterated China's commitment to support Egypt's efforts in maintaining national stability, developing economy and improving people's livelihood. China, he told them, is willing to strengthen mutual political trust with Egypt and deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure, new energy, security and law enforcement.
Meng said that China will always respect the Egyptian people's will to choose their own political system and development path.
On Egypt's part, Sisi and Mahlab agreed to China's position on how they may boost bilateral security cooperation. They stressed that Egypt is currently focusing on developing the economy and improving the people's livelihood, and would thus welcome more Chinese companies to invest in Egypt and participate more in its development.
Meng personally conveyed President Xi and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's regards to Sisi and Mahlab.
He also held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
Back in August, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi also held a strategic dialogue with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, during which it was agreed that the two countries would, among others, strengthen cooperation in anti-terrorism and law enforcement security and the fight against transnational crime and drug trafficking, as well as solidly promote military exchanges and cooperation.
