The Walt Disney Company has unveiled a small cube device called "Circle with Disney" that connects to a local Wi-Fi network to give parental control over the type of content their children's mobile devices can access, and how long they can do that. For example, the gadget could limit a kid's YouTube video watching to one hour on their iPhone or iPad. Parents can also block ads, "pause" their home's online access, check how much time their child is spending with particular mobile apps and content types, and set no-connectivity "bedtimes."
Two years ago Jelani Memory's Circle device joined the Kickstarter crowdfunding site. However, it did not meet its fundraising goals.
Memory is Circle Media's founder. He calls the experience a "great failure" as his company has developed a product and has teamed up with Disney.
The device's creator explained that the Circle with Disney device has been improved during the past few years. That includes the app and how it groups content, according to Wired.
However, the company's partnership with Disney was most important. It boosted its access to content for a ton of music and videos for kids, and allowed him to work with the technical experts at Disney Interactive and Disney Consumer Products.
The new Disney device allows users to access content across Disney-owned companies. They include Pixar, Disney Animation Studios, and Star Wars, according to Tech Crunch.
The content is available via its MyCircle feature. It is a web dashboard for each family member where they browse Disney content such as GIFs, music, videos, and games.
Circle with Disney went on sale on November 4, Wednesday. It has a $99 price tag.
