New and bigger smartphones such as Apple's iPhone 6 are being blamed for the reduced usage of tablets, according to the Pocket app.

The article saver and viewer app analyzed its users' data to check if the recent launch of bigger iPhone models from Apple affected the users' behavior.

After Pocket checked more than 2 million uses of its app, it discovered that users who have both a new and bigger iPhone and an iPad use the latter less than the former.

According to Pocket's data, iPhone 5 or 5S users that also own an iPad use the phone for viewing articles or videos 55 percent of the time, compared to the other 45 percent for the tablet.

The numbers are even bigger with the new 5.5-inch-display screen-bearing iPhone 6, which users use to view content 80 percent of the time, shadowing the 20 percent for the iPad.

In addition, the Pocket app found out that the larger the phone's display is, the bigger the chance that videos will be viewed. iPhone 6 Plus users view around 40 percent more video content in the app than the iPhone 5 or 5s users, and 16 percent more than the smaller iPhone 6 users.

Furthermore, weekend data from the app indicated that iPhone 6 Plus owners viewed content on the phone 67 percent more than those with a smaller model.

However, additional data showed that bigger phone owners view articles less. Owners of iPhone 6 Plus viewed readable content 22 percent less in the earlier part of the day compared with smaller iPhone owners. According to Pocket, this may be due to owners having a difficult time handling the bigger phones while traveling.

Pocket also noted that Android users who own both a smartphone and a tablet viewed content 80 percent more on their mobile phones.
