Before the Dec. 1 commemoration of the 27th World AIDS Day, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang took a tour of the Beijing You'an Hospital and checked on patients, volunteers and medical staff on Nov. 28.
AIDS, or the acquired immune deficiency syndrome, is a medical condition sometimes referred to as advanced HIV infection where a person's immune system is too weak to fight infections.
As one of the first medical institutions to contribute to fighting AIDS, the You'an Hospital has been offering services to those inflicted with the disease and is helping on the AIDS epidemiological investigation, drug development, clinical treatment, international cooperation, medical training and publicity.
During his visit, Premier Li said in front of the AIDS patients, experts and representatives that the government would take care of major responsibilities for fighting AIDS and its funds allotted should not be reduced.
The premier also noted that the government should be able to help anti-AIDS groups in their funding, especially when their international sponsors have already backed out from providing for them.
The society's treatment toward AIDS patients, Li said, is a reflection of the change in civilization and progress. He added that AIDS patients, including their families, should be nurtured with respect and utmost care.
