Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao held talks on Tuesday with Cape Verde Foreign Minister Jorge Tolentino.

During their meeting, Li remarked about the relationship between China and Cape Verde, saying his country and the African island nation are good brothers, partners and friends, according to a Global Times report.

The vice president also said that the establishment of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which formalized their diplomatic ties, has led to the healthy and rapid progress between them.

The Chinese official expressed China's preparedness to collaborate with Cape Verde to advance their friendship, as well as deepen mutual trust between their governments and boost cooperation in areas such as health, agriculture, education and tourism.

These moves will elevate the two countries' bilateral relations, Li said.

Tolentino, meanwhile, said that the Cape Verde people are friendly toward Chinese people and that Chinese investors are welcome in their country.

The Cape Verde foreign minister said that he looks forward to strengthened exchanges on the cultural level between the two countries and that he welcomes the setting up of a Confucius Institute in his country.
