In light of charges filed by Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) against torrent websites, The Pirate Bay (TPB) is the last man standing.
According to Pirates Forum as of 3.30 a.m. on Nov. 9, TPB is still up and running with new users free to sign up, download torrents, and make comments on the uploaded files.
Meanwhile, about two weeks ago, Torrent Freak confirmed that YTS/YIFY has been permanently shut down.
In an interview with Variety, MPAA's current chair Chris Dodd explained the move taken by the organization against torrent websites. He said that such websites have stolen copies of movies and TV series without compensating the owners.
"This coordinated legal action is part of a larger comprehensive approach being taken by the MPAA and its international affiliates to combat content theft," said Dodd. He added that YTS and Popcorn Time are illegitimate websites that distribute stolen copies of the latest motion picture and television shows "without compensating the people who worked so hard to make them."
YIFY downfall comes as a surprise for most torrent fans particularly considering the heavy traffic that the website received within a period of five years. In 2013, YIFY founder remained mum when asked about the fate of the site, and later he revealed that within a period of one year, the traffic of this website almost tripled.
Based on YIFY's demise, many TPB fans are concerned that MPAA may not be lenient to the only remaining torrent website, and TPB may soon shut down. Amid the concerns, fans are encouraged that TPB is the only safe site now for downloads.
