The mayors of Beijing and Copenhagen, Denmark, are set to hold discussions on water resource management in the Chinese capital, according to the Global Times.
Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun and Copenhagen Mayor Frank Jensen will hold the talks in a bid to identify ways to safeguard drinking water resources and reduce water loss in pipelines, Jensen told Xinhua News Agency before leaving for Beijing on Wednesday.
The leaders of the two capitals, which became sister cities in 2012, are also set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the management of potable water, according to Jensen.
"Clean water, especially clean drinking water, is very important for big cities like Beijing," the Copenhagen mayor said, saying that he can share with the government the experiences Copenhagen has in minimizing water loss in the Chinese city.
"By drawing on my working relationship with the Chinese authorities, we hope to utilize Copenhagen's reputation for sustainability and be able to do more business with China and to create more jobs in Copenhagen and Denmark," he said.
Accompanying the mayor in making proposals to Beijing are representatives from about 20 Danish clean technology enterprises, which include Grundfos, COWI, Ramboll and Danfoss.
Jensen expressed hope for the further development of the ties between Beijing and Copenhagen through this visit, which will last for four days.
