Former MySQL and Eucalyptus Systems chief executive officer Marten Mickos is the new head of San Francisco-based company HackerOne.
HackerOne started as a startup company put up in 2012 and since then it was able to raise $34 million in funds. The company received major venture funding from some of the biggest names when it comes to tech investments like Benchmark, NEA, Yuri Milner, Jeremy Stoppelman, Marc Benioff, David Sacks, Drew Houston, Brandon Beck and Nicolas Berggruen, according to Computer World.
HackerOne is known as a bug bounty platform. Companies pay HackerOne to find vulnerabilities in their products and services in order to be properly patched before malicious hackers can exploit it for their own gain.
Mickos will replace HackerOne cofounder and current head Merijn Terheggen who will handle key strategic direction for the company. On the other hand, Mickos will hand the daily operations of the company.
HackerOne is known to focus heavily on computer security and Mickos admits that he does not have a lot of knowledge on that field. Despite this, Mickos feel that his background in open source communities has prepared him for the job.
Mickos told Tech Crunch, "I have a lot to learn. This hasn't been my core knowledge or passion, but I get a kick out of learning new thinks." He added that when he took over Eucalyptus and MySQL, there were some learning curves too and this is a trend that he feels he is already used to.
HackerOne claim that it has around 380 clients using its platform. The company has served prolific companies like Adobe, Twitter and Yahoo. Since its founding, the company was able to discover and fix more than 14,000 bugs.
