The exhibit was initiated and sponsored by the China Artists Association's Children Arts Commission, the Beijing Chenguang Rehabilitation Center for Cerebral Palsy, the Enjoy Museum of Art, and the One Foundation, along with other organizations.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992.

The day is observed to "promote the understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities," according to the UN.

Part of the annual activities to commemorate the day is the United Nations Film Festival, which features films related to disability. The event is also held to raise awareness of issues on disability and promote "full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in society."
