Roku has unveiled its new Roku SE streaming box, which is an alternative to 4K media players, just in time for the holiday shopping season. The low-cost basic device features OS 7, high-definition 1080-pixel video playback, media casting features, basic remote control, and access to over 3,000 streaming channels. The $50 regular price will be halved to a rock-bottom $25 on Black Friday, making it a cheaper way to enjoy Netflix than Google's Chromecast.
Two weeks until the biggest shopping day of the year, big retailers are starting to roll out Black Friday sales. They include Walmart, Best Buy, and Target offering tech deals on 4K HDTVs, Blu-ray players, Windows 10 laptops, home routers, iPad Air 2 tablets, Apple smartphones and smartwatches, e-readers, PS4 and Xbox bundles, GoPro action cameras, and selfie sticks.
Roku added its own discounted product on November 11, Wednesday. The new media player is called Roku SE, and has a suggested retail price of about $50, according to BGR.
However, the company will provide a big discount for Black Friday, slashing the price in half to $25. It might also offer promos for its other streaming media players.
The Roku SE will be equipped with the company's newest operating system, and HDMI and analog outputs. It will also be compatible with the Roku Mobile App for iOS and Android devices.
The new media player lacks an Ethernet port, voice search, and remote finder, according to Tech Times. It also probably contains low-end internal hardware.
Roku launched its 4K streaming Roku 4 media player for $129 just weeks ago. However, the SE model gives budget consumers a cheaper option than Google's $35 Chromecast.
The Roku SE will be available on its website. It can also be purchased at Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.
