Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the role of innovation in economic development.
The remarks were made by the Chinese president while on an inspection tour of the eastern Jiangsu Province. He visited scientific research institutions, enterprises, countryside and farmers' houses.
The exact remarks made by Xi was "China must rely on innovation to achieve continuous and healthy economy development."
The president called for close coupling between science and technology and the economy, as well as deep integration among industry, university and research, so as to realize seamless connection between industries and science and technology, and increase the contribution rate of science and technology to economic growth.
The key in developing the economy, according to Xi, will lie in the transformation of the developing model, in the reformation of the economy and elevating the medium-to-low industrial configuration to a medium-to-high one.
He urged the establishment of a new mechanism to the benefit of generating modernism fruits and transforming these results to industrial applications.
Xi called for furthering the effectiveness of export, creating new compensations of an open economy, and mounting new room for opening up nationally and to the outside world.
The president also highlighted the significance of a modern agriculture, flourishing rural areas and prosperous farmers in the nation's overall modernization drive.
During the inspection, the president also called for more efforts to deliver safe, effective, suitable and reasonable public health and basic medical services to people living in rural areas as well as those in cities.
