China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. (CASC), China's major aerospace contractor, seeks to further innovation in the field by inviting 1,300 private enterprises to take part in future aerospace projects.
State-owned CASC organized an international forum on advanced aerospace materials and commercialization in Ningbo, in northest Zhejiang Province, to encourage development in the country's manufacturing sector.
Concluded on Dec. 17, Wednesday, the forum is a means for state-owned entities to partner with private contractors and consequently "advance the practical application of innovation already in use by other sectors," as said by Wang Yongru, vice president of Ningbo Jintian Copper Co. Ltd., one of the technical affiliates with CASC.
CASC chief engineer Ba Risi said that combining space technology with private economy will create a "fertile market" by using the private sector's capital for concrete application of technology.
According to Wang Kunsheng, head of China Academy of Aerospace Systems Science and Engineering, China has already developed world-level new material technologies like artificial crystals and super-strength steel that are forecast to have a market demand of between 5 billion and 100 billion yuan by 2020.
During the forum, CASC has offered private sectors to partake development in 30 areas, including high-performance metal and organic polymer. Other segments to be offered in the coming years are clean energy, satellite application and high-end equipment technologies.
Established in 1999, CASC is a multi-armed entity that designs, develops and manufactures launch vehicles, spacecraft and missiles.
