Rapper Erick Sermon has recently shared his thoughts about hip-hop and the artists he listens to.
The "No Pressure" hit maker discussed the kind of people he wants to work with and among the hip-hop artists he considers creative is Drake.
"I like creative people. I would even put Drake in there because of that '0-100,"' Sermon told The Source. "You can't find stuff like that. He's a writer so I rather listen to that than anything else."
Among the hip-hop artists Sermon said he listens to are J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar, whose new projects he said are phenomenal. For Sermon, J.Cole makes a statement in his music and he feels like that is what hip-hop is about.
"That 'I love myself' sample from The Isley brothers' "That Lady" I think that was phenomenal and that is the type of structure hip-hop consists of, that type of content and they both do that well," Sermon said.
The 46-year-old rapper explained he would rather listen to artists like J.Cole and Lamar "because of the conversations" because hip-hop is used to teach people and it can save a generation. He said, "That is where I'm at to save my culture."
In addidtion, Sermon said he likes artists who are doing the real culture of hip-hop alignment, such as Joey Bada$, Action Bronson, and Tyler The Creator and his crew.
Sermon has been constantly asked by his fans when he is coming back. Now, he is back with a new single titled "One Shot" with Masspike Miles.
When he was writing "One Shot," Sermon said it felt like Eminem's movie "8 Mile," which says "You only get one shot." He said he wants the song to show that he is in competition with no one because no one is on the same level as him.
