Since "Young & Hungry" Christmas special episode was out of the show's original timeline, fans were relieved to find Gabi still in San Francisco along with her roomie Sofi. "Young & Hungry" season 2 finale episode showed the arrival of Josh's younger brother with whom Gabi decided to venture out to Coachella to run a food truck.

"Young & Hungry" special episode, titled "Young & Christmas," showed Gabi and Sofi still in town as they were unable to make it to their relatives. The two decided to volunteer at a local homeless shelter on Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, Yolanda was missing her kids when the pair told her to invite her sister instead. Jolanda made her entry and it soon turned out that the two sisters did not share amicable relations and held old grudges against each other.

Gabi reached out to both the sisters and tried to amend their relations.

On the other hand, Elliot was terribly missing his newly wed husband Alan and was feeling very low on the Christmas Eve. To cheer him up, Josh went out of his way and even donned a seemingly hideous green dress.

Sofi got a Christmas present when she went out shopping and while billing, department store clerk (played by Mindy Sterling) makes an error that benefits Sofia's wallet.

The episode ended on an emotional note in which the group was seen having a sit-down dinner in Josh's apartment and exchanged toasts and cheers full of emotions and laughter.
