Because he is a minor, a 17-year-old British male who became the youngest revenge porn convict in England and Wales, escaped serving time in prison.
The unnamed youth had admitted to posting on Instagram after they separated a video of his former 14-year-old girlfriend masturbating. District June Annabelle Piling sentenced him under section 33 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015, reports The Telegraph.
According to Prosecutor Rafia Khatun, the victim sent him the video via Snapchat, for his private viewing, while they were still in a relationship. After they broke up badly in January, he demanded that she return the phone, ring and jumper he gave her. When she refused to return an iPhone he lent her, he assaulted the girl and then hours later posted the video and texted her to check her Instagram account. Although her face is not visible, her name has been tagged. He also reposted the video on Facebook, but also deleted that and the one on Instagram.
Piling scolded him for breaking the trust of private and intimate images that should have been respected and kept private. "There is absolutely no justification for what you did," Piling told the teen whom she said could have been sent to a prison if he was an adult.
Because the victim is only 14, the revenge porn could affect her ability to trust me in the future and relax in intimate situations. Piling points out that what he did to her and the feelings he caused her to undergo will stay with the girl for the rest of her life. She said in a statement read in court, "The whole incident has made me feel humiliated and I am scared of seeing people in public who might have seen the photos."
Since he was 16 when he posted the video and is now 17, Piling said she would deal with the plaintiff "as a less mature offender."
Meanwhile, on the same day, 31-year-old Samantha Watt became the first female to be jailed for revenge porn in the UK. Watt took photos while her 21-year-old female partner was performing a sex act on her. When they split, she posted the images on Facebook on July 1 and wrote in the caption that her lover accepts payment to have sex, reports The Telegraph.
District Judge Julia Newton sentenced Watt, a mother of four and former cleaner now jobless, to 18 months prison term. But she would only serve nine months before Watt would be released on license.
