Jarah Euston, a Flurry Blogger, said "Since the emergence of the mobile revolution, Dec. 25 has always had the highest record for activating new devices and app installations; 2014 has proven the observation."

From the more than 600, 000 applications that Flurry was able to examine, the results have shown that Apple's iOS has dominated the activations achieving 51% of the entire device market. In second place was Samsung gathering an 18% share and Nokia/Microsoft in the third position with 5.8%, mostly because of the Lumia devices.

To put it in simple perspective, for each activated Samsung device, Apple has got 2.9 activated devices. Further, for each activated Microsoft Lumia, Apple has got 8.8 activated devices.

Meanwhile,"phablet" and those with bigger screens have become a more popular gift option. Flurry has reported that 13% of the activated new devices fell under the "phablet" category; 3% better than how it performed 20 months ago. Small and full-size tablets are declining. In 2013, 17% of all activated devices were of full-sized tablets; however, it's dropped 5% lower this year.

HTC, Huawei, and Xiaomi had less than 1% share each. Blackberry, on the other hand, was not included in the brands mentioned.
