General Motors Co. is cooking something up for its loyal consumers. This time the auto company is giving retailers the option to reach its consumers even if they are on the road driving, provided that the target consumers are driving GM cars.
GM, a car manufacturer based in Detroit, surprised the consumer market when it released car models with built-in high-speed Wi-Fi. Now GM is pushing the boundaries further by introducing a brand new service that will allow drivers to avail of coupons from their local retailer just by driving through. GM added that many more services are currently in development and will be unveiled in the succeeding months. GM calls its newest service "AtYourService". The service will be available on the OnStar network, which is also a subsidiary of GM.
GM presented its newest in-car technology at the Consumer Electronics Show being held at Las Vegas. OnStar's Head of marketing Rick Ruskin said in a statement said that the idea for the new technology was based on millions of comments and recommendations of its consumer base. Latest statistics shows that Onstar has more than six million subscribers in North America and Canada alone, service is also available in China and in Latin America although it is known by a different name.
This marketing strategy from GM came from the idea that car manufacturer have been pushing for quite some time now. In its efforts to reach its consumer base even when they are driving, various car manufacturers have tied up with different tech companies especially those with expertise in mobile applications. GM has already has made a deal with network provider AT&T to provide its vehicles with ultrafast internet speeds.
According to GM, its newest service will enable their consumers shop while driving. Additional services like looking for available parking spaces and booking hotel rooms are also present.
