Belkin, the manufacturer of Linksys routers, recently unveiled the new Linksys WRT1200AC Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015.
According to CNET, the new router, which is the latest model for the WRT family, supports a dual-stream (2x2) setup for the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard. For the local network speed, it can support up to 877Mbps for the 5GHz band, while it can reach up to 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band.
It also has two detachable Wi-Fi antennas, one Gigabit WAN (Wide Area Network) port and four Gigabit LAN (Local Area Network) ports.
Similar to its older brother the WRT1900AC, it can also act as a network storage server by utilizing its eSATA, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for connecting an external hard drive.
For users who want to keep the home or office space organized, Belkin also announced its new Linksys WRT Network Storage Bay, which is a hard drive enclosure that supports up to two SATA hard drives and the RAID-1 technology. The enclosure can connect seamlessly to the WRT1900AC or the WRT1200AC router via eSATA or USB cables. The storage bay can be stacked under the two aforementioned network routers, reducing the space it uses.
In addition, Belkin also announced its new High-Gain Dual Band Custom Antennas for users who want more Wi-Fi coverage. The antennas, which is omni-directional, can reach up to 3dBi on 2.4GHz and 7dBi on 5GHz bands.
Belkin's newest Linksys WRT1200AC Router is expected to be launched this spring for the suggested price of $180 in the U.S.
