Apple first introduced and sold unlocked iPhone 6 models through T-mobile, wherein it comes with T-mobile SIM that only supports GSM carriers. Meanwhile, their unlocked iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s was first introduced two months after their respective releases in 2012 and 2013.

This offering for US consumers is beneficial to those people who do not want to be tied up in a specific carrier. As CNET has pointed out, this can be used in any other carrier such Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-mobile and can be used around the world as long as they have a compatible Nano SIM.

The pricing varies and depends on its storage. The unlocked and SIM-free 4.7-inch iPhone 6 16, 64 and 128 GB models is priced at $649, $749 and $849 respectively, just like the unsubsidized ones. On the other hand, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus 16, 64 and 128 GB versions is priced at $749, $849 and $949 respectively.

All unlocked iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models have the same functions and features as the locked one's have, where you can use it for data connection, send text messages and make phone calls, the only difference is it does not have any contract commitment or not included on any carrier installment plans.
