Microsoft's upcoming browser "Spartan" is slowly being revealed more as further details leak about the Windows 10 addition.

A source told CNET that Spartan will not be an Internet Explorer release, but will be a standalone browser, which will utilize the Chakra JavaScript engine and Trident rendering engine. According to CNET's source, it will also support browser extensions, similar to Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

One of its major features, according to The Verge, is that it is expected to be integrated with Cortana, Microsoft's digital assistant. The Redmond company is aiming to let Cortana provide information on package tracking, hotel bookings and airline flights via Spartan's address bar.

Another major feature of the Spartan browser is its stylus compatibility with Windows 10 users. It will also allow for webpage annotations, which can also be sent and shared with friends. Users can then add notes and edits.

The Spartan browser will also allow for tabs grouping for a cleaner experience. Spartan users will be able to organize their browser tabs to their liking.

However, Internet Explorer will still be included in Microsoft's newest OS for compatibility reasons. The Spartan browser is expected to be an app, available for both desktop and mobile devices, in the Windows Store to be updated regularly.

The Verge describes the Spartan browser's user interface as nearly similar to Chrome with a minimalist feel and look.

There is still no definitive announcement from Microsoft discussing the Spartan browser more, but it is expected that the tech giant will be providing more details on its Windows 10 consumer reveal on January 21.
