The Beatles' Ringo Starr drum kit, the Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit, was sold in an auction worth $2.11 million.
Starr used this drum kit during the early days of The Beatles. The objective to auction off his early drum kit including more than 1,300 pieces of Starr's archives is to raise Lotus Foundation funds, Ultimate Classic Rock reported.
The Lotus Foundation was founded by Starr with his wife Barbara Bach, the report added.
The Starr drum kit buyer Jim Irsay also had his other music collections from music icons including the John Lennon-owned guitars and the Beatles-used instruments, all of which cost million dollars, Rolling Stone reported.
In an interview with the publication, Irsay said that they it took years and million dollars to bring all the Beatles instruments back together. "It took over 4 million dollars and 45 years, but we finally got them back together."
Irsay also said he is privileged and honored as he felt like a curator of music history. He explained, "I feel I'm just a curator of history. I'm going to pass this thing on as time goes along."
Starr's 1963 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit is another million dollar item for his collection. The drum kit was used on the Beatles song "Can't Buy Me Love." Part of the collection is Rickenbacker guitar to Starr from Lennon including iconic rings.
Irsay also had items in his collection featuring the musical instruments of music legends such as the Gretsch guitar of John Lennon and the 1965 Newport Folk Festival guitar of Bob Dylan.
