Nintendo has confirmed that the last Nintendo Direct broadcast on Super Smash Bros. 4 will be on December 15 but rumors continue to swirl on what the revelations might be on Cloud Strife as the latest DLC characters. Also, more details are expected to be unpacked, including two more new fighters, 2 new additional stages and a likely Nintendo NX version of the game.
Gameplay redefined
When Super Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai announced last November that Cloud will crossover from the Final Fantasy VII, excitement immediately gripped Smashers and the speculations centered on the how the new character will alter the Super Smash. Cloud's entry into the game is being likened to Roy of Street Fighter as the latter, according to Design & Trend, is a blade-wielding warrior like the FF7 hero.
Sakurai's fresh announcement on the 15th should reveal more of Cloud, specifically the character's actual release date and the cost of the upcoming DLC, the Design & Trend report added.
More Super Smash expansion
As persistently mentioned in previous reports, there are at least five slots that the Super Smash DLC will fill up. Two have been reserved already for Cloud and the FF7-themed stage - rumored as the Midgar arena - that he will bring with him. The balance spots remain a guessing game subject and the suggestions floating around so far piques the interest.
Since Cloud and Roy represent Super Smash entries that totally surprised, fans cannot help but to toy with the wildest ideas such as Goku of DragonBall Z smashing his way to the franchise.
But really what will make Smashers erupt in joy is Shovel Knight brawling with the Nintendo and non-Nintendo fighters as the odds are not in favor of the character becoming a Smasher. If in the last minute Yacht Club Games and Nintendo agree on this, a retro stage designed exclusively for Shovel Knight has to be part of the DLC package, Design & Trend said.
Nintendo NX connection
The December Nintendo Direct airing is said to be the last for the Super Smash series, which likely will encourage the game creator to tease the future plan that Smashers can look forward to. One possible hint that the 15th broadcast will carry is the Super Smash connection to the company's rumored gaming device - the Nintendo NX.
Recent reports indicate that the Nintendo NX - a hybrid machine that will function both as a console like the Wii U and a handheld like the 3DS - will start mass production March next year for a likely rollout in the third quarter, perhaps as early as July 2016.
And on its 2016 release date, the Nintendo NX is rumored to launch with surefire hit game titles - with The Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros. 4 as among the most talked about candidate.
