Windows 10 Mobile update for smartphones running on Windows Phone 8.1 will begin in early 2016.
Microsoft had previously announced that the Lumia smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1 OS will start receiving Windows 10 Mobile OS update this month. However, the company has delayed its arrival and will be releasing the update early in 2016, ZD Net reported.
Currently, those users who have registered for the Windows Insider program have been consistently receiving Windows 10 Mobile builds. It means that until now the Windows 10 Mobile is yet to be available officially. Only three handsets namely, Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550 come with Windows 10 Mobile OS preloaded.
It is not known whether the Redmond tech giant has purposely delayed the release of Windows 10 as the company has not provided an official reason for it. The company has only mentioned that Windows 10 Mobile will be released "early next year" which seems to be very vague as there is no specific timeframe provided, GSM Arena reported.
Moreover, Microsoft has not revealed the list of Lumia smartphones that will be updated to Windows 10 Mobile. It was in July that the company had announced the list of Lumia smartphones that will receive Windows 10 first. The list includes following handsets:
- Lumia 430
- Lumia 435
- Lumia 532
- Lumia 535
- Lumia 540
- Lumia 640
- Lumia 640 XL
- Lumia 735
- Lumia 830
- Lumia 930
Since the handsets mentioned are among the first devices to get Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft is expected to add more smartphones to the list.
The Windows 10 Mobile update will be available for such handsets. The Redmond giant has also announced that Windows 10 Mobile will be made available to all the Lumia smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Denim software.
