Apple is good with innovations. It is also good at keeping secrets. Join them together, results in a secret laboratory in Taiwan. Reliable sources have recently confirmed that Apple has started using the lab to develop its own OLED displays for future products.
There are currently, at least 50 engineers employed by Apple to work on a new technology for displays. An OLED display is said to be thinner, lighter and consumes less energy than LCDs, which is the display being used by the current iOS devices, as well as the current devices out in the market.
The secret Apple Lab is said to be located in Longtan, Taiwan and started operating in April of this year. Apple was accidentally spotted moving its things into the area. It is also said that many of the employed engineers are from AU Optronics and Qualcomm, who are also known to develop displays, Bloomberg reported.
The said structure has no markings at all, no indication that it belongs to Apple. One will only be able to truly say that Apple owns it is upon reaching the reception area, where the Apple logo is can be seen. However, unless an appointment has been made, nobody can go beyond that area.
OLED or organic light-emitting diodes, are known to be better than LCD or liquid-crystal display. OLED does not require a backlight, which makes it thinner and energy efficient. Nobody can argue that, with the current display, the larger it is, the more energy it consumes and that is why Apple is developing its own OLED display. The battery juice on Apple devices will last longer, The Verge reported.
