Gorilla glass is always associated with smartphones, and one without this glass is not considered much by the buyers; however, a car with gorilla glass is a trendy subject, in fact, the first of its kind - a pioneer.
Ford has come up with the gorilla glass technology for its cars. GT Supercar from Ford boasts about the Gorilla Glass hybrid windshield technology, which is similar to that of the smartphone glasses, but 30 percent lighter compared with the traditional windshield glasses used in the cars.
The greatest advantage in using Gorilla Glass in Ford GT cars is that it saves 12 pounds, which can be used in increasing the performance, acceleration and braking. According to Ford, the window is a three-layered glass that consists of annealed, thermoplastic and automotive glass. The center of gravity is lowered, for the weight of the glass is lower than what most vehicles use, and the benefit is the stellar handling of Ford is improved.
Ford Group Vice President for global purchasing Hau Thai Tang enunciated that "Gorilla Glass hybrid is a great example how Ford works with suppliers to innovate in every area of our business." He added, "Ford GT is setting new standards for innovation through performance and light weighting and we are excited about exploring other applications for this great new technology."
After research and trials of four months, this idea is deemed fit, and users can wait for the same to be rolled out. Corning was indulged in this research and, Wendell Weeks, its CEO, says "We worked with Ford to develop a glass that successfully withstood thousands of hours of durability testing, and is now being used in the Ford production vehicle."
