British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, 44, and his wife, "The Great Gatsby," actress Isla Fisher, 39, have responded to an appeal to help Syrian refugees by donating one million dollars to charity.
The couple gifted more than $500,000 to a Christmas appeal to help protect more than 200,000 children in Syria against a possible outbreak of measles, The Sunday Times in Britain reported.
Charity officials confirmed the generous contribution by "The Dictator" actor and his Australian wife to Save the Children. The couple's gift will pay for measles vaccinations for children in Northern Syria, according to the publication.
"By allowing us to make their generous donation to Syrian children public, Sacha and Isla are helping highlight the tragedy of the issue today," Save the Children's Chief Executive, Justin Forsyth said in a statement obtained by People.
Donations received will pay for emergency aid, shelter and education for Syrian refugee children and families in Iraq, Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. Displaced families living within Syria's borders will also be helped, publication reported.
For Cohen and Fisher who have three children of their own the monetary token is not the only donation made by the duo. In addition, the same amount of funds was donated to the American Charity, International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help Syrian refugees, especially women and children with education, health care, shelter and sanitation.
IRC President and CEO David Miliband told the publication the couple's donation was an example as well as a "great expression of humanity."
Meanwhile, actress Susan Sarandon recently highlighted the need for humanitarian aid for refugees in war-torn Syria through her work with the organization RYOT.org.
Other Hollywood actors who have taken to assisting in the refugee crisis include "Birdman" actor Edward Norton, who donated $500,000 towards Syrian refugees recently.
In addition, actress Angelina Jolie who is a special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has been another prominent figure known for her long term support and her regular monetary contributions towards the ongoing crisis.
