The much-awaited second generation Apple Watch 2 is about to gear up for mass production from the second quarter of this year.
According to the sources from some of the upstream supply chain of Apple Inc., Quanta Computer is to be given sole manufacturing rights for the product, DigiTimes reported.
Roping in Quanta Computers as the sole manufacturer of Apple Watch 2 has rumored that the company only seeks low volume of production for the 2G Apple Watch. MacRumors cited that "the weaker than expected shipment" for the first generation Apple Watch is the reason behind the lowering production rate of Apple Watch 2.
Apple initially considered on shifting the 2G Apple Watch manufacturing rights to Foxconn Electronics of Hon Hai Precision Industry, but owing to the lower volume of production, it decided to keep all the orders with Quanta Computers. The sources also noted that an interim update for Apple first generation watch will arrive alongside the launch of Apple Watch 2.
Even before the product manufacturing rumors had aroused, a list of new features coming in Apple Watch 2 has started to shoot up. It is widely buzzed that 3D Touch feature, which is currently found on Apple's latest iPhone 6s devices, will be used for the Apple Watch 2. This feature registers three levels of contact and has recently acquired more acclaim.
Also, an Independent Wi-Fi is said to be incorporated to make it a standalone device. Though the leaked pictures featured the same design as that of the Apple Watch 1, it is rumored that the device will be slimmed down a bit. Also an update can be expected in its IPX7 waterproof standard to IP67 standard, Alphr reported. Beyond the new edition model, some new expensive watch faces are also expected.
