Vin Diesel is best known for his role as Dominic Toretto in the "Fast & Furious" films.

"Fast & Furious 9" is set to be released on April 19, 2019. Vin Diesel confirmed the release date in an Instagram post on Feb. 3, Wednesday.

This means that "Fast & Furious 9" will go against the Dwayne Johnson starrer "Shazam!" at the box office. It will also be followed by "Avengers: Infinity War- Part 2" and "Star Wars: Episode IX," which will be released in May 2019.

It has yet to be confirmed Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Michelle Rodriguez will all be in the cast of "Fast & Furious 9." They are set to reprise their respective roles as Deckard Shaw, Hobbs, Roman Pearce, Tej Parker and Lettie Ortiz Toretto in "Fast & Furious 8," which will partly be filmed in Iceland.

The film crew of "Fast & Furious 8" are scheduled to film in April in the West Iceland town of Akranes, particularly by the harbor and in the Cement Fields. A large explosion is reportedly expected during the filming.

Mayor Regína Ásvaldsdóttir told Vísir that the "Fast & Furious 8" filming in Akranes is an extensive project that is expected to affect retail and service in the town. She added that the residents, who received at their þorrablót gathering, are excited.

It will not be the first time for Akranes to be set as the setting for filming. Before "Fast & Furious 8," some of the scenes of the Netflix series "Sense8" were shot at the town's hospital.

Prior to the announcement that "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray will helm "Fast & Furious 8," Rodriguez told E! News that "the most important thing is finding a good director." She also said they need a good reason to move on after the death of their "Furious 7" co-star Paul Walker.
