The release of the next installment will be announced on Twitter, where Activision employs a three-year rotation cycle amidst their three studios, as confirmed by the COD developers.

Infinity Ward speaks about having the COD game heading into space, with former producer Mark Rubin quoted as saying in 2013 "Yeah, it really makes sense. I will not count it out."
"Everything's right on the table. Whenever there's a new game, we start right on the table. If we think it's rightful to go combating over Jupiter, so why not," he added.
However, he went on to explain that the "COD" gameplay mechanics, like killstreaks and grenades, will only work inside a space station.
