A recent study released by marketing company Chitika revealed an interesting contrast between Apple and Android users. Although the test was administered state-by-state, a common trend emerges and shows that Apple users achieve higher educational levels compared to their Android counterparts.

Merging its own data with the United States Census and American Community Survey, the study aimed to reveal the correlation between iPhone users' educational attainment and social status.

The paper was released of Jan. 22 and concluded that US states with high education level, higher income and higher population density also had a higher usage rate of iPhone products.

Aside from tagging iPhone users as well-educated and smart, it also important to note that majority of iPhone users fall into the higher social and income class of society. Despite the obvious correlation between iPhone usage and educational attainment, the study was done on a state-wide level thus dismissing individual smartphone users' unique characteristics, according to Quartz.

Among the states that has "very high" iPhone usage rates are Alaska, Hawaii, Kansas, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire and Mississippi. On these states, iPhone usage averages between 55 and 65 percent, according to AppleInsider.

A similar study conducted by Pew Research Center on 2013 also revealed a similar user contrast. Pew concluded that Android users are "hard-core techies" and works on technical jobs and presents a "deeply technical", "hard-drinking" male user-base. The study also added that the majority of Android users came from the less affluent level of society that is why the lower priced Android evokes more appeal to them compared to the more expensive iPhones.

iPhone users on the other hand comes from the top part of the socio-economic ladder. The most common trend among iPhone users are: higher educational attainment, higher income, and majority of its user-base have professional and managerial jobs. The report also added that iPhone users are tech enthusiast but only as consumers rather than producers.
