MacBook Air 2016 release date set June? Top 4 reasons to wait

| Feb 18, 2016 09:05 PM EST

MacBook Pro 2016 will come with touchscreen feature, faster performance, longer battery life and Skylake chips in June 2016.

Apple fans are crossing fingers that alongside the iPhone 5SE and iPad Air 3, the new breed of MacBooks will in fact be introduced on March 15, specifically the MacBook Air, which in 2015 was skipped for a significant upgrade treatment. In all likelihood, release date of the new notebooks will not happen until June 2016. Will they be worth the wait?

According to MacRumors, Apple favors a staggered rollout of the latest MacBook models and the approach will likely apply to both the Pro and Air editions. So if the rumors are correct, it promises to be stretch of months to wait this 2016 and not a one fell swoop move but listed below are the reasons to be patient:

Retina MacBook Air

The MacBook Air is still waiting for the glorious Retina display that Apple already brought to the MacBook Pro line. Fans would want to taste the eye-popping 2304 x 1440 screen resolution that was experienced with the 12-inch MacBook Pro, per Gotta Be Mobile, and 2016 might be just the right timing that Apple is waiting for the deployment to become a reality.

Intel Skylake engine

At the same time that a Retina MacBook Air will finally unbox, the 2016 builds will most boast of Intel's latest masterpiece - the sixth-generation Skylake processing chip that is designed to redefine the mobile computing landscape.

With Intel Skylake running the MacBook Air and Pro show (working in tandem with OS X, of course) the new devices are touted to gain at least 20 percent more of processing might plus the welcome 30 percent improvement in efficient use of battery. Now that reads longer battery life.

USB-C port

It is an Apple signature that every product launch will carry forward-looking features. For both the MacBook Air and Pro, it will be the USB-C port that is expected to bump off the regular USB in the 2016 refresh.

Biggest MacBook Air screen

As rumors persist that 2016 is exit time for the 11-inch MacBook, the belief is gaining traction that Apple will bring forward a replacement with screen that stretches at 15-inch, which likely will be for both the Air and Pro. But as indicated in the same MacRumors reports, Apple fans will need to wait until the last months of 2016 to get hold of the 15-inch MacBook flavor.

Citing the whispers coming from Asia, MacRumors said that mass production of the 15-inch MacBooks will commence in the third quarter of the year with the release date to follow in the months ahead. But the possibility remains that the 2016 MacBook lineup will be introduced starting on March 15 and to be completed in time for the WWDC 2016 in June.
