"Empire" season 2 star Ta'Rhonda Jones recently dished on how much her life was changed by the FOX series.
In an interview with Glamour, the actress said that her life was on a standstill before she got a call to star on the TV show.
After years of working at a hospital, Jones' cousin informed her that "Empire" lead star Terrence Howard is looking for female rappers in their 20s.
One fine day, Jones decided to go to the audition where she was asked to read some lines.
A few days passed and she received a call that she has been cast on the show.
"I called and went to this audition, where they had me read a few lines, then asked me to come back the next day. On the third day I went in again and said that same lines in front of a guy. I did not know the guy was 'Empire' producer Lee Daniels, and I was still waiting up for Terrence Howard. Afterward I thought, let me look up what I'm auditioning for. I saw all those names: Lee Daniels, Taraji, Danny Strong. I'm like, 'Oh my God, this is big. This is huge. Two days later I got a call offering me the role of Porsha," she said.
Meanwhile, Jones revealed that the offer to star on "Empire" came right at the same time when she received an offer to work at a hospital.
However, the ultimately decided to choose appearing on the show because she remembers what her older brother would always tell her.
"You're the one who's going to get us out of this hellhole," Jones' brother said.
In other news, Jones said that she didn't change much after she joined "Empire" because she is still the same person.
However, the actress' life has definitely changed ever since she did so.
"Before 'Empire' I had never been on a plane, I'd never even been outside of Chicago! And thanks to the show, I live in a condo in Chicago on the seventh floor. I got outta the 'hood!' I can see skyscrapers now," she said.
"Empire" season 2 will return to FOX on Mar. 30.
