"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will feature more Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) scenes in the upcoming episodes.

In a recent article she wrote for Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec said that Bonnie and Damon's relationship will be put to the test because of the latter's wrong decisions.

"Bonnie and Damon's friendship is about to hit some fairly major hurdles. He's making bad decisions left and right, and he will make one that impacts Bonnie in horrible ways. He will have to work very hard to earn her forgiveness, and they'll each have to decide how important they are to each other. That's the best I can tell you for now. I can't comment on future pairings because my mind changes a lot," she said.

Based on what Plec wrote, it seems that Bonnie and Damon will remain best friends on the show until the time comes that she changes her mind and turn them into something more.

Additionally, it was already revealed that Bonnie will end up with Enzo (Michael Malarkey) in the three-year time-jump so the former and Damon's relationship could only happen in present time.

Meanwhile, Plec also talked about Damon's decision to "cheat" on Elena (Nina Dobrev).

Some fans of the onscreen couple reacted negatively at the sight of Damon hooking up with another woman.

However, the exec clarified that it wasn't their intention to make it seem as though Damon is forgetting about the love of his life.

Plec also reminded fans of what Elena told Damon when they said goodbye to each other in season 6.

At that time, Elena gave her blessing to Damon to live his life to the fullest.

"Elena's parting words to Damon involved a request for him to 'live his life.' The subtext in that was not to be a monk and not to retreat into isolation. But I'll be honest, I'm not sure he would have ever been with another woman if he hadn't thought he had just burned his one true love to ash," she wrote.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
