'Final Fantasy VII Remake' is an upcoming video game remake, developed and published by Square Enix, of the original 1997 PlayStation role-playing video game by Square.

It is about 10 years since the release of the original "Final Fantasy VII," and now there are reports that the game will finally get an update. It is rumored that the upcoming remake will follow the original plot of the 1997 game besides having episodic releases, but it will have improved graphics.

In a statement via Siliconera, producer Yoshinori Kitase said, "I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for 'Final Fantasy VII Remake.' I'd like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement."

If the statement turns out to be true, fans of "Final Fantasy VII" should expect seeing an earlier release for the remake by 2017 in PS4 version. There were speculations indicating that the game will be launched on Nintendo NX, although none of this has been confirmed by Square Enix.

December 2015 saw the release of the first footage of "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," which was confirmed during the 2015 E3 Conference. At the same time, the game producer featured a few game elements that gamers should expect in the upcoming installment.

In a statement released in a blog post via Polygon, producer Kitase said, "With the Final Fantasy VII Remake, we have the opportunity to go beyond the story, world and experience of 'Final Fantasy VII' in ways we've always dreamed of - from the depths of Midgar to the skies above the Planet."

Kitase added that the multipart format allows developers to expand the original story and change it into an epic experience for fans and new players alike. Therefore, the game will be released in several parts - episodic format.

It is rumored that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be divided into at most, four parts, which will allow compilation of stories. However, there is no confirmation whether the remake will come out anytime this year.
