LG K5 vs LG K8 LTE: New LG mid-range smartphone battle – Which should you buy?

LG has added two models to its affordable mid-ranged K series smartphones - the LG K5 and LG K8 LTE.

LG has added two models to its affordable mid-ranged K series smartphones - the LG K5 and LG K8 LTE.

Aside from releasing LG G5 and LG V10, the South Korean tech manufacturer also released numerous K series smartphones this year, Phone Radar reported. Earlier this year, the company introduced LG K4, LG K7 (also known as LG Tribute 5) and LG K10 on their official website, which are now available in selected markets across the globe.

With the recent introduction of K5 and K8 LTE, President and CEO of LG Mobile Juno Cho was quoted as saying "the K8 and K5 will be fantastic choices for anyone who is seeking a smartphone with great looks, great looks [sic], at a great price."

The new LG K5 features 5-inch FWVGA screen with 854x480 pixel resolution, while LG K8 LTE sports 5-inch IPS LCD display with 1280x 720p resolution and is protected by a 2.5D glass. Both K8 LTE and K5 is clocked at 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. K5 is packed with 8GB ROM plus microSD storage backed with 1GB of RAM, while K8 LTE has the same built-in storage specs but comes in two RAM variants - 1GB and 1.5GB.

In terms of battery capacity, the LG K5, which is available in Titan, Silver and Gold colors, sports 1900 mAh, while K8 LTE, which is available in Indigo, White and Gold colors, features better battery life with its 2125 mAh offering. LG K5 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, while K8 LTE has Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box, Android Headlines reported.

In terms of camera specs, K8 LTE sports better camera features with its 8MP rear camera and 5MP selfie snapper compared to K5's 5MP back camera and 2MP front shooter.

LG G5 will be available soon in Armenia, Latin America, Russia, Ukraine, Europe and Belarus, while K8will be available in the same regions, along with countries in Asia, Africa and Middle East.

Meanwhile, aside from K series, it can also be noted that LG introduced its X series - LG X Cam and LG X Screen - during the 2016 Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.
