Apple will reportedly release a 9.7 inch iPad Pro release, instead of iPad Air 3.

iPad Air 3 release will reportedly take place on Mar. 21, although this is still uncertain if that will really happen.

Based on the rumors, the iPad Air 3 is a smaller version of iPad Pro. Because of this, it seems like the device is a hybrid of the two Apple tablets. However, the big question is whether there is a need for consumers to upgrade their current device?

Below is the comparison of the iPad Air 3 or the smaller iPad Pro with the current iPad Air 2.

Screen Display

The current iPad Air 2 packs the same, old 9.7 inch screen panel and 4:3 aspect ratio. According to rumors, there will be not much change in terms of screen display as the smaller iPad Pro will pack the regulr 9.7 inch screen panel.

Processor

iPad Air 2 sports the A8X processor. The rumored iPad Air 3 will reportedly sport the A9X chipset, which is deemed faster than its processor.

Operating System

iPad Air 2 was released with iOS 8.1, but it is upgradable to the current iOS 9.2. The iPad Air 3 will come with iOS 9.2 version.

Storage

The current iPad Air 2 is available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants with 2GB RAM. Taking a clue from previous iPads, the iPad Air 3 will come with 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB with as much as 4GB RAM.

Camera

Both models will reportedly sport an 8 MP iSight camera at the back and 1.2 MP front-facing camera.

Speakers

The second generation of iPad Air packs two loud speakers. One of the perks of being a smaller iPad Pro is having four speakers surrounding the tablet to make for a better movie watching experience than the two speakers on the iPad Air 2 provided.

Other Features

Some of the added features of the rumored iPad Air 3 are Smart Connector that will enable users to connect a keyboard accessory. Moreover, the tablet will reportedly pack a 3D Touch technology that was seen in last year's iPhone.
