Song Joong Ki stars in "Descendants of the Sun," alongside Song Hye Kyo.

Forget about Professor Do of "My Love from the Star," as a new hot male star can be seen in a new popular Korean TV series that is airing every Wednesday and Thursday. Song Joong Ki stars in "Descendants of the Sun," alongside Song Hye Kyo. The former plays as Captain Yoo Si Jin from the South Korean army, while the latter plays as a doctor that the captain is wooing.

"Descendants of the Sun" premiered in February in countries like Britain, China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the United States, to name a few, and since then, the Korean TV drama series reached above 30 percent TV ratings, surpassing Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun's "My Love from the Star."

Due to "Descendants" popularity, local viewers and online community fans are asking for KBS 2TV to extend the TV series; however, the Korean TV network who handles "Descendants of the Sun" confirmed that the TV series will not have an extension.

Despite growing demand for "Descendants of the Sun," KBS' drama bureau chief Jung Sung Hyo told Star News that they do not have any plans on airing a special episode or any extension episode for the series. He even mentioned that since "Descendants of the Sun" was fully filmed in 2015 before airing, it will be impossible to shoot an extension. "Descendants of the Sun" will air until April 14 as planned, and its timeslot will be replaced by "Master: God of Noodles" from April 20.

Meanwhile, due to the popularity of "Descendants of the Sun" in China, Chinese Ministry of Public Security cautioned viewers against an unhealthy obsession with Song Joong Ki via Weibo. However, the warning came late for a 20-year-old Chinese woman who has been diagnosed with acute glaucoma after watching two episodes of "Descendants of the Sun" and 16 episodes of "Cheese in the Trap."

Not only female viewers are into the TV series, as some male viewers like Eugene Quek cannot deny how appealing Joong Ki is after watching the melodrama "The Innocent Man" and some episodes of "Descendants of the Sun."

On other news, due to "Descendants" story plot, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha encourages his citizens to watch the Korean hit drama. The prime minister was quoted as saying that the drama has a sense of patriotism, sacrifice for one's country, obeying orders and tackles being a dutiful citizen, Yonhap News Agency reported.
